5 Reasons to Migrate Your Blog to HubSpot
By Bill Viau
A HubSpot blog migration might seem like a hassle. Each post’s URL has to change...there are link redirects to set up...is it really worth it?
Yes. The advanced reporting and analytics capabilities of a blog connected to a HubSpot subdomain are simply something you won’t want to miss.
There’s a fork in the road that every company must face when onboarding with HubSpot. Will you migrate your blog?
Odds are that your blog currently lives on your core website domain. Unless you’ve built your website using HubSpot from the start, that domain will be hosted on some other platform (such as Wordpress). Our primary web domain, for instance, www.marketveep.com, was originally created as a Wordpress website and hosted on a Wordpress domain.
One side of the fork is to leave your blog where it is. You could use the HubSpot CRM and some of the tools from the Hubs of your choice (Marketing, Sales, Service, Operations), but a lot of the better functions, automations, and analytics functions will remain out of reach. The other fork is to migrate your blog from Wordpress, Pardot, Webflow, or whatever other platform you’re using to a new HubSpot subdomain and reap the benefits.
Do I Need to Migrate My Blog to HubSpot?
If you want to take full advantage of your HubSpot tools, the only way is to migrate your blog to the HubSpot system. This nearly always involves creating a new subdomain for your blog that’s hosted with the HubSpot platform (in our case blog.marketveep.com). The only time a subdomain wouldn’t be necessary is if your entire website is either already on HubSpot, or if you’re moving the whole website — and not just the blog — over to a HubSpot domain.
A new subdomain means that the URL of every post on your blog will change. You can prevent broken links by placing 301 URL redirects in place that point anyone clicking an old link to the new address. Wow, you may be thinking. Migrating seems like it could be a lot of work. In reality, it’s not too difficult or overly time-consuming to do, and the benefits far outweigh the upfront effort for the transition.
The Benefits of Migrating to a HubSpot Subdomain
Track Individual and Overall Blog Performance
HubSpot has a wealth of built-in analytics functions that can automatically feed to a user-friendly realtime dashboard that’s personalized to show exactly what you most want to see. Perhaps you’d like a running bar graph that shows your top performing posts, so you can track which types of topics are seeing the most engagement and readership. Maybe you’re more interested in breaking down the growth in traffic to your blog’s domain over time as your inbound strategy matures, and comparing organic, direct, referral, and paid traffic patterns. A HubSpot migration hooks every blog into this analytics ecosystem for simple, fast, customizable insights.
Attach Blogs to HubSpot Campaigns
The only way to attach your blog content to a trackable HubSpot campaign is if it’s hosted within a HubSpot domain. Segment your content into each new campaign you roll out with an easy-to-use dropdown menu during publication on the HubSpot subdomain, attach campaign-relevant CTAs and gated assets, sit back, and see exactly how each one performs.
Advanced Reporting Capabilities
It’s fast and effortless to use blogs in custom reports when they’re fully connected to the HubSpot system and not hosted on a separate platform such as WordPress. Simply set your desired custom parameters, print to the file type of your choice, and boom. You’ll be prepared for every quarterly KPI meeting or other reporting process that involves blog content.
You Can Prove Your ROI
Perhaps the most important benefit of migrating your blog to HubSpot is that it makes it easy to prove the ROI you’re seeing for content marketing efforts. Marketing can often seem hard to quantify on your bottom line. With a HubSpot subdomain for your blog, you can easily show off precise attribution numbers such as how many leads or how much revenue came from contacts that originated on a blog post in an ROI-focused custom report.
Leverage SMART Content Through Workflow Automation
Last, but certainly not least is the ability to automate how you serve up content and CTAs to your prospects, customers, and database. If your blogs are hosted on a HubSpot database, marketers can easily set up tagging rules that will share content relevant to your prospects demographic or action based activities, such as their persona or blog topic interest. This means you can trigger workflow nurtures, lists, and campaign enrollments without a marketer having to click the mouse even once. And the best part is that your database will thank you for sending them only info that is relevant and meaningful to them.
